Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Trust, Barnet Hospital
I am one of 6 Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons in a busy unit serving a population of 250,000. 70% of my current practice is dealing with degenerative spinal disorders and back pain and the rest is general Orthopaedics and Trauma.
Barnet has strong links with RNOH, Stanmore, the North West Thames SpR rotation and the Royal London.
I now:
I worked as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Trust between 1998 January and May 2002.
The 4 years spent, as a Consultant in Bassetlaw Hospital were very enjoyable and challenging. I established my practice and felt confident of not just my clinical skills, but also my administrative and training abilities. Moreover, I enjoyed a very good relationship with my colleagues, staff, junior medical staff and management.
My practice was general, but evolved to include about 50% of low back work. In addition, I had a large trauma practice with areas of special interest in os calcis fractures and complex periarticular fractures.
As the educational supervisor for the Orthopaedic department and as audit coordinator, I helped coordinate and set up a very active teaching programme over the last 3 years. There were close links with Sheffield and Nottingham City Teaching Hospitals and trainees were encouraged to attend the teaching sessions.
